I cut my hair to let go of an old version of myself

May 19, 2024

Hair holds memories, they say.
So I cut it, to let go of an old version of myself.

It can feel so good to end a chapter, start a new one, and openly invite fresh energy into your life.

Especially to women, it’s often not just hair. It often goes a lot deeper than that.

Hair holds onto a lot of things.

Energy.

Memories.

Trauma.

Experiences.

The good and the bad.

Your entire identity, sometimes.

After all the hard things life threw at me in the last few months, I needed a fresh start.
I consciously wanted to invite my new self, and enter my new era with a new sense of confidence.

The release I felt when I took the scissors was amazing, exciting, and thrilling. (After the big cut, I went to the hairdresser to get it cut and dyed blonde professionally.)

I told no one about it beforehand because I didn't want opinions like "...but aww, it's so sad to cut such long hair," etc.

I chose to hold an entire funeral-ceremony for my past self, which, by the way, is also an ancient ritual art.

You might have seen this trend on social media already: people throwing a funeral-party for their 20s/30s or their marriages when they get divorced. It's a funny idea that's actually rooted in ancient rites.

Whenever we ritualistically let go of something, even our subconscious mind understands that it's really over. We release it all from our entire energy field.

In this Podcast episode, I want to tell you more about my experience and inspire you to create your own little ceremony whenever you cross an important threshold in your life, or when you feel ready to step into your new version to enter your next era.

With Love,
Elaine Valerie
